Shay helps everyone else, ALL THE TIME, now she needs our help.
On the night of October 9, 2018, upon arriving from a breast cancer fundraiser in Los Angeles, Shay noticed a horrid smell upon entering her home, which was the result of flooding in the lower level. The lower level is also where SSPW had over 200 dresses stored, in which they use for cancer patients, for photo shoots and special events. About 100 gowns were ruined, along with multiple walls, 8ft storage/wet bar, rugs, boxes, files and more.
Shay Sharpe’s residence isn’t just her personal home, its also the office space and headquarters for Shay Sharpe’s Pink Wishes {SSPW}. SSPW is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, based in Baltimore, that educates, advocates, supports, mentors, provides scholarships and grants wishes to young women and children who have been affected by breast cancer.
After seeing the extent of the damage, Shay contacted her insurance company, Liberty Mutual. Because no one knew the source of the water, a flood clean up crew was NOT immediately sent, so Shay by herself, started the tedious process of cleaning up all the water, removing debris, and trying to dry out the walls.
Did I mention that Shay has 3 broken ribs and is a 2 time breast cancer survivor? She should not have had to do this. Since this time she has gone without heat, assistance or answers and has spent a lot of time and money on service fees. Also, the laundry room wall and wet bar have since started to mold.
On November 29th, the insurance company informed Shay that they would NOT cover any of the damages because she doesn’t have sump pump coverage on her policy. This is the time of the year when we host our annual Christmas brunch and spend time with the kids we work with and our families so this news is a HUGE blow, so close to the holidays. In the spirit of giving and the holidays, we ask for your help..
Established in 2011, Shay Sharpe’s Pink Wishes Headquarters is where cancer survivors, patients & their families have come to chat, rest, receive support, eat and receive Wishes, especially Christmas Wishes. It is also the place where we prepare meals and feminine hygiene bags, along with accept clothing donations for the homeless.
A couple of the contractors who visited the site believe that if SSPW has the grounds around the site properly graded and landscaping corrected, it would alleviate most of the water that the sump pump needs to pump out, thus preventing it from being overwhelmed again in the future. Needless to say the price of repairing a 30×30 area and the land around it will rack up a costly bill, one that can’t be afforded by Shay Sharpe’s Pink Wishes, especially considering everyone is volunteers, including Madame President Shay Sharpe.
Let’s join together with all of our friends, family members and supporters around the world, so that we can support a woman and an organization that has done so much for so many.
Even if you’re unable to donate at this time, please share this post on your social networks. Thanks ~ Myka
